Living in New York I thought gyms were expensive... coming back to Yangon the cost in New York is only but a fraction of the cost here!
There are of course the affordable gyms but they're unclean, lack of maintenance and have small variety of equipment to choose from. And some are really far. The ones I'm looking for are ones that are easy for me to get to (lol I take my car to go work out, funny right?) clean, have a sauna, have a variety of equipment for me to choose and work out with, and a swimming pool though that's truly optional.
Oh and one last thing; call me selfish but I like it when my gym is empty. I don't know about the environment here in Yangon, but in New York, no one really has the time to look at you but here in Yangon... the community I'm in is rather... niche. So almost everyone knows everyone. And their business. sigh
But you know what the base price is for a gym like that? 120. Oh no. I'm not even talking in my local currency (kyats) I'm talking DOLLARS. It's 120$ for a month! And that price is for a gym with limited use. And no pool. Can I get a WHAT?!?!
The hotels are the only ones with a gym and pool and they charge at least 200... ridiculous!!!
I swear this hike in price is because they have no competition and low customer.
Pull this in New York/USA and you'll see America getting back first place from Mexico in being the fattest country.
I'll update again when I finally decide on the gym and report my findings!
